Collection of Arthur Russell's instrumental sessions from the mid 70s to early 80s. The first set, "Instrumentals 1974 Volume 1", collects a series of sessions recorded at Chelsea multi-disciplinary art space The Kitchen when Russell was 23 years old, had just moved to New York City and was crashing on Allen Ginsburg's couch. "Volume 2" will be familiar to Russell devotees: his 1977-78 modern classical recordings, also from The Kitchen, were previously collected on an incredibly pricey compilation and are available again on vinyl for the first time since 1984. Casual fans may be familiar with Russell's work with leftfield disco outfits Dinosaur L and Loose Joints, but this set, along with recent compilations Corn and Another Thought, demonstrate Russell's scope and versatility as an artist who refused to be tied down by any scene. Fully remastered double vinyl set with printed inner sleeves and a 12 page booklet including liner notes by Tim Lawrence, Ernie Brooks and Arthur Russell.
